Editorial: Congress Just Doesn't Get It

The US House, which has adjourned for a long weekend, and the US Senate have failed to resolve the looming fiscal crisis of draconian across-the-board-cuts to essential programs. I don't care what party you support, Congress just doesn't get it. You don't pull money out of the economy when we're coming out of the recession. Congress is responsible for the federal budget, not the President, and not some unnamed bureaucrat, despite bellyaching to the contrary.  Put aside the grandstanding and work to solve the problem. President Obama stated: "Today, Republicans in the Senate faced a choice about how to grow our economy and reduce our deficit. And instead of closing a single tax loophole that benefits the well-off and well-connected, they chose to cut vital services for children, seniors, our men and women in uniform and their families. They voted to let the entire burden of deficit reduction fall squarely on the middle class. I believe we should do better
