Living history this weekend at Macktown - Beloit Daily News

ROCKTON — Children swarmed around the Macktown Forest Preserve Friday and watched history come alive before their eyes.

Students from the area were able to see people dressed in clothing of the 1800s, sitting outside tents and teepees, and explaining how the people of the Rockton area survived in the wilderness as the community first took shape.

"You may get a sense of the way it was before you were born — of the people who helped make this nation what it is today," Alan Harrison, who was portraying Stephen Mack, told a crowd of students Friday at the Gathering at Macktown...
