Upcoming Wildflower Walkabout May 12 - Natural Land Institute
May 12, Thursday at 6:00 p.m. - Blackhawk Springs Forest Preserve
Meet Mark Keister, retired director of the Winnebago County Forest Preserve, at the Perryville Road entrance (south of Linden Road and north of Blackhawk Road). This 630-acre preserve is the largest bottomland forest on the Kishwaukee River. We will view the limestone bluff vegetation, including ferns and mosses, and transition to the oak savanna and wetlands. Hepatica, woodland phlox and trilliums can be seen under the canopy of white oak, silver maple and sycamore. If the hawthorns are in full bloom, we may see redstarts and warblers. Easy hike.
NLI is funded largely through private donations. For information on memberships and ways you can support land conservation, please visit our website at www.naturalland.org. You may also contact our office at 815/964-6666.
