Local Egyptians celebrate Mubarak's resignation half a world away

ROCKFORD (WREX) - It's been an emotional roller coaster the past
couple weeks for Magdy Kandil and his family. He lives in Rockford but
was born in Egypt.

"We've been watching the news since the beginning of this great
movement," he says. "We had some sleepless nights. We were very
anxious to know what the outcome was going to be. Yesterday was a
disappointment to us. Today is a different story. This is a new day in
history."

The Kandil family left Egypt in 1978 but still have relatives there.
They visited early last month before protests began. Magdy wishes he
could be back there today, reveling in the triumph of revolution in
his native country.
