Rockford teachers union calls district's deficit claims 'bogus'

ROCKFORD (WREX) - The Rockford School District's 50 million dollar
budget shortfall is a "manufactured crisis." That is one of the claims
from the Rockford Education Association which finally spoke out today
on Superintendent LaVonne Sheffield's massive budget cuts.

REA President Molly Phalen had some fighting words at today's news
conference, calling Sheffield's proposed program cuts, school
closings, and layoffs "unnecessary, unwarranted, and just plain wrong.
The budget numbers do not add up. We have discovered that this
administration has made critical mistakes and miscalculations."
